Ans. Seeing Gillu sitting near the window and affectionately peering at the world outside made the narrator to set him free.
2. What did the narrator do with the wounded squirrel?
Ans. The narrator held the squirrel at her palm, applied penicillin ointment on his wound-and tried to feed him milk. However, when the squirrel did not take milk she gave him water and cared for him always.
3. How did the narrator make the tiny baby hale and hearty?
Ans. The narrator gentry lifted the squirrel up and brought to her room. She wiped the blood from his wounds with cotton wool’ and applied penicillin ointment over the wounds. Then she gave him milk and water and looked after him. After several hours, she succeed in pouring one drop of water in his mouth. On the third day, he became much better. She nursed him carefully.

Ans. Yes, I have a pet dog. The dog loves me as much as I love him. He takes dinner with me. He waits for me and takes meals only when I am ready. We eat together at a place. He waits for my arrival, even if he is hungry. This is the way it shows concern for me.
5. How did ‘Gillu’ sustain wounds?
Ans–Gillu was a tiny baby squirrel. One day, he fell down from a nest near a flowerpot on the verandah

Ans. Yes, peace, freedom and democracy are as essential for human being as food and clothing. But, we can say that these are something more valuable than food and clothing. rather they are as essential as air.
Man’s all round development depends on the opportunity before him. And a man cannot gain his opportunity unless he is in peace and freedom. Such a condition which gives peace and freedom, is called by the name of democracy. Democracy gives the opportunity of self-service and self-government. Thus all these things are essential for human beings.
9. Sketch the character of Halku.
Ans- The main idea of the story is that despite his hard labour Halku fails to the debts that he has to pay off to the landlord. In doing so he fails even to buy a blanket to pass the biting cold of the January night. The severity of the cold caused by the gust of wind at night does not allow Halku to go to his field to drive away the nilgais which were grazing his harvest and devastating his field.
Halku was always in debt. He had saved three rupees for a blanket but he had to give the money to the landlord. He was very fond of his pet dog, Jabra who was his constant comparion
10. What effect did the cold of the January night have on Halku?
Ans. It was so cold that Halku felt as if all his blood had frozen and that ice rather than blood had filled his veins. When he tired to sleep, the cold tortured him and made his heart beat foster. Halku shivered and was unable to sleep because of the extreme cold
